How you can help and support your child at home
Although children have only a few more weeks in Skippers Class we would greatly appreciate your continued support with reading. Please remember to sign the reading record book so that we know that you have heard your child read at home and we can change their book with them. House points can still be earned and many children have almost achieved their Gold Awards!
We have recently introduced a new handwriting scheme which most children in the class have begun to learn. All letters start on the line, with a “lead in line” which should help the children with the orientation and size of their letters when they are writing. Later they should find it much easier to develop a joined script.
A handwriting card has gone home so that if you would like to help you can be familiar with the way all the letters are formed. This could be helping your child to write their first name and/or surname or looking at a specific letter family –
i l t k
r n m h b
c o a d g q e s
f y j
u v w x y z
Learning to form letters takes time and practice so a little help even looking at one letter or your child’s name would be good. You can also make it fun by using big chalks outside or big paint brushes and water.
Many thanks for all your support and please come and see me if you have any queries especially with our new cursive handwriting style.
