Climate Unity Art Project 2022
We have been very excited to join in with this year's Hampshire Climate Unity art project. This year the artwork will comprise of circular work using recycled materials to be symbolic of the planet and ideas about eternity and inclusion. The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity and timelessness. The art work must also embed ideas about Climate Change, eternity, protection and inclusion.
We are very fortunate that this year the art work will be displayed at the Southampton Gallery with an additional whole school art project displayed at Hillier Gardens.
We began the project brainstorming ideas of what we could base our art around and quickly settled on a bike as we have been thinking about alternative ways to travel to school other than using the car.
Early years and KS 1 have been working on collage in art so decided to use this skill for their art project.
KS 2 are putting on a production of Peter Pan and decided they would make a collaborative piece of art from recycled materials representing Captain Hooks boat.
Both art projects are displayed within bike tyres.
We also decided to come together as a school to create an art project based around a whole bike. We decided to use clothes that the children no longer wore to write our pledges for the future on. These bits of materials were then used to upcycle a bike that would otherwise have ended up in landfill.
