Our Play Based Curriculum 

Research and our school experience tells us that young children learn best through play and exploration, this is why we have built on excellent Early Years practice to provide our children with independent learning throughout Early Years into KS1. We have found our approach gives the children time to think and explore, and to be fully engaged in their learning all day long. This is outlined in our EYFS Curriculum Intent.

Children know play is their superpower

This quote from the Lego Foundation shows the importance of play for children's learning;

Our School Day 

No day in Skippers Class ever looks the same! But we always spend a large amount of our time engaged in high quality-play. This play is enhanced by adults leading an activity, facilitating or observing. When working with children, we use open questions stems such as ‘I wonder…’ to promote discussions. All areas of learning are reflected in discovery time and carefully enhanced to meet children's needs.

We have a number of short directed teaching sessions throughout the day for areas such as maths, phonics and writing. These take place in various forms including 1:1, small group or whole class. We also attend daily whole school collective worship.
