  • Comic Relief

    Fri 13 Mar 2015

Everyone had a fun today celebrating and raising money for Comic Relief. All of the children came to school wearing something red and gave generous donations. Mrs Black made special Red Nose Day cakes for a snack at break time and Delrae made some beautifully decorated biscuits for children having hot dinners.

But, how can we forget Mr Dodson dressed as a lady! The children were in hysterics this morning as they were shown his outfit for the day. What can only be described as a gorgeous sequined dress with matching bonnet and bloomers. But not forgetting the stunning blonde wig that Mr Dodson wore all day! A special thanks goes to Mrs Hamblin for making sure Mr Dodson was finished off with a fine face of make up!!

A huge thank you to all of you that donated money and to all of the other members of staff who dressed up too! We raised over £160 which is a fantastic effort by everyone! Take a look at our photographs below.

  • Admirals Gym Week

Fri 13 Mar 2015 Miss Banks
This week Admirals have been working extremely hard to master some rather tricky gymnastics. They have been learning new gymnastic moves including forward rolls, headstands and bridges. We've perfected pointed toes and have walked and performed like true gymnasts. Check out our class page for our photographs.

  • Netball and Football Match

    Thu 12 Mar 2015

On Wednesday afternoon children from the football and netball clubs headed to Awbridge for a match.

After a short warm up and some team tactic decisions it was time to get started. As the netball team stepped onto the court it became clear that we were 2 players down - a quick regroup saw 7 players head back onto the court with the chance to practise in some new positions!

The footballers played two 10 minute halves with each member of the football club getting a chance to play in the match. Considering we were vastly outnumbered by year 5/6 players we put up a valiant effort and all the children enjoyed and learnt so much from the match.

Back on the netball court, with four 5 minute quarters the children got chance to play in a variety of positions perfecting their shooting, attacking and defending skills. Following some ace shooting Lockerley were crowned the victors.

Well done to all the children that represented their school - you did yourselves and us proud. frown

  • World Book Week

Fri 06 Mar 2015 Miss Banks

This week has been all about books. A list below is just some of the things we have done to celebrate World Book Week.

    • Book word searches and colouring for the World Book Week books.
    • Book swap
    • Making our own bookmarks
    • Dressing up as our favourite book characters
    • Guessing the teacher's favourite books
    • Admirals have voted for the favourite picture book as part of a countywide book award.
    • Year 3 put on a splendid assembly all about books

I think it is fair to say that we have had a very busy but fun week celebrating everything about books. It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying the books they swapped and talking about books all this week. Great costumes too! Very impressive. Take a look at out photos from World Book Week.

  • Inter-House Spelling Challenge

Fri 06 Mar 2015 Miss Banks

This afternoon the whole school joined together in the hall to take part in Lockerley's second Inter-House Spelling Challenge. All of the children were divided into their houses and they had to take part in group and independent spelling challenges.

Skippers went first where they needed to spell what they saw. They used the magnetic letters to spell out the words. A fantastic effort from Skippers as all of the children got full marks! Next came Admirals, they had to unscramble the letters to make words and fill in the missing words in the sentences. Swallowtails class had a tougher job. They need to spell out the missing letters in words and find the correct spelling from a selection of misspelt words. The key for these two tasks was speed. Last but not least was Emperors. They had definitions as clues and they had to write the word correctly. Year 6 had the toughest spelling challenge of all. As the room fell silent for the backward spelling challenge, Jack, Lily, Samuel and Matthew did a great job at spelling words backwards. They were not allowed pens or whiteboards to write the words down and they made a fantastic effort spelling backwards including words such as comprehend and gullible.

The last group challenge was the alphabet challenge. Each house had the 26 letters of the alphabet. They then needed to order themselves in order from A to Z.

After I have marked everyone's spelling challenges the house winners will be announced during Monday's Collective Worship. Take a look at a pictures below.

  • Finkley Down Farm Park

Thu 05 Mar 2015 Miss Banks

On Wednesday Admirals and Skippers had a fantastic, hands on day at Finkley Down Farm. We were very lucky with the weather which made it even better. The day started with a tour around the farm where we could hold lots of different animals such as rabbits, chicks and mice. We also had a go at pony grooming and goat and geese feeding.

Check out our class pages for recounts and photographs.
