Autumn 2
Geography - Volcanoes and Earthquakes
The children have been investigating natural disasters, in particular volcanoes and earthquakes. They then explored how they could replicate a volcano or make their own seismograph. In their groups, they designed their own volcano or seismograph to share with their families at 'Sharing Christmas'.
RE - Incarnation
Emperors have been investigating who the Messiah is and the relationship with Christmas. They have thought about what Christmas means to them and also what Christmas means to Christians. We discussed how Christmas can be a struggle for some people; those less fortunate, those who are lonely etc. The children made their own adverts to promote 'Putting the Christ back into Christmas'. If you scan the QR code you can view their adverts.

Science - Heart Dissection
Emperors welcomed Evie from RVC London, who demonstrated a heart dissection. The children discussed their previous learning and asked many questions related to the circulatory system. Some children were excited to hold the heart (with gloved hands) and get a close-up look at the ovine heart.
Science - Evolution
The children have read about Charles Darwin and his book 'The Origin of the Species' and have investigated the evolution of the finches beak in the Galapagos Islands. The children used different utensils; kitchen tongs, wooden pegs and tweezers to mimic the beaks and different objects to act as seeds; pebbles, pegs and paper clips.
