Autumn 1

Evaluation of our baked goods! How did they taste? What could we change?

Continuing with our Food Technology, the children prepared their Flatbread, using skills within the kitchen, cleaning-up by the children was very impressive.

Following our whole school worship where we heard the story 'Jesus heals the paralysed man', the children were tasked with teamwork to overcome limits in their class worship. The children used the helium stick to test their teamwork skills. They discovered communication - listening and speaking- were the way to progress with the task.

Food Tasting in preparation for our Food Technology unit. We are hoping to provide a substantial flatbread suitable for a slave, scribe or even a Pharaoh. The children tasted different flatbreads from around the world, along with a variety of dried fruit, herbs and spices.

To conclude our 'Controlling Electrical Circuits' unit, Emperors class designed and made their own burglar alarms. They had to use their knowledge of voltage, complete electrical circuits, insulators and conductors to finally produce their systems. As you can imagine it was rather a noisy lesson.

As part of our History unit - Ancient Egyptians - the children investigated how Ancient Egyptians dealt with the passing of important people in to the Afterlife. We learnt about the mummification process and the steps following the Ba into the Afterlife.

Year 6 had a day of Bikeability, learning how to make sure their bikes were safe, they were prepared and that they understood the rules of the road before heading out on a bike ride around Lockerley.

We used cuisinaire rods to show how part-part-whole structures can help us to visualise additive and multiplicative problems.

During PSHE, the children discussed the meaning of 'tying the knot'. They talked about commitment, communication and teamwork. The children then worked together, using communication and patience to release themselves from the knots.

E from our class very kindly shared an Egyptian artefact of a necklace, made circa 32BC

How can we control electrical circuits? Emperors investigated how different circuits with more or less batteries affected the output of lightbulbs and buzzers. The children drew scientifically the circuits they had designed.

In PSHE we investigated how our posture can affect our mood and how others view us - positive and negative poses

We love reading in Emperors class, thanks O for sharing your book recommendation with us

The children entered some Egyptian Tombs yesterday, where they found artwork and many different ancient artefacts. They sketched what they found and we hope to investigate this incredible find later today.

What a brilliant morning at Lockerley! The children in Emperors stepped into a Planetarium to discover our world past and present, the children discussed Creation - linked to our RE, Egyptians - linked to our History and Space - linked to our future Science.

To help us develop our understanding of key characters in The Egyptian Cinderella, we reminded ourselves of how to hot-seat as a particular character.

To kick start our learning of the Ancient Egyptians, we have been investigating Ancient Civilisations and where they are positioned within history using a time-line.

Already we have used the wall bars during indoor PE - reminding ourselves of how we can safely move, climb and balance.

We have started our Longitudinal Study in Science - Do we grow at a steady rate? The children have designed their own ways to answer this question, we are looking forward to seeing the results throughout the year.

First day back! The children will all so amazing, we are all looking forward to the year ahead.
