Autumn 1
We enjoyed playing parachute games in our last PE lesson of the half term.
We have enjoyed our Science topic on materials, and we investigated the properties of different objects from the classroom. We thought about whether different materials could be bent, squashed or twisted. We also investigated whether or not materials would float in water, and worked in teams to create some interesting boats!
We were joined by Skippers Class for a village walk to help us with our geography skills. We created a map showing the journey from the school, under the railway bridge, past the church to the Scout Hut.
We enjoyed outdoor learning with Skippers - we loved playing in the autumn leaves and making some Hallowe'en inspired art work.
We continued to talk about the Christian Creation Story in RE. We celebrated our world by trying different delicious fruits from around the world, and enjoying time in nature.
We have been really lucky to have visitors come in to talk to us about school. Miss Chapman told us about what Lockerley School was like when she was a pupil, and showed us her butterfly on the wall. Mr McCann told us about what Lockerley School was like when he was Head Teacher, and Nanny told us about what school was like for her as a child. We learned a lot of history facts that we will put into our posters.
We enjoyed hosting a Phonics Party for our grown ups! We talked about the sounds that we are learning, how to say them using 'pure sounds' and how to make learning phonics fun! We had a great time playing games and enjoying party songs (and treats!) in the Hall.
We had an exciting day visiting the village Post Office and Coffee Shop!
Inspired by 'The Jolly Postman', we have all been writing letters in our English lessons, inviting members of the village Coffee Morning to come to our school and see our amazing work. After we put them in envelopes with address labels, we took our letters to the Post Office to be delivered. We helped to stamp them, and asked some interesting questions. We then went to meet some members of the Coffee Shop and told them to expect something exciting in the post!
We experimented with different colours in Art. We learned about primary colours, and how we can mix them to make secondary colours. We then had a go at making our own colours!
We enjoyed starting our Science unit about describing different materials. We investigated materials that we could find in the classroom and thought about how we could describe their features.
Skippers and Admirals went outside to look for signs of Autumn in our outdoor area. We found lots of different colours and made a collage with all of the beautiful nature that we found.
We enjoyed working with Skippers to build dens in the autumnal sunshine! We thought about how to share the equipment and work as a team. We also developed our resilience as we had to think carefully about how to make our dens successful!
We had an exciting delivery today! Mark, our jolly village post man delivered a parcel to our classroom, and inside was a book! We read the Jolly Postman and came up with some ideas of what to do next.
We enjoyed our first PE lesson this week and made the most of the autumnal sunshine! We practised our gymnastic shapes and balances.
We had a visit from the fire service. We learned about what is safe to play with and what isn't. Some of us tried dressing as fire fighters! We learned about the different emergency services, and what the fire service does to keep us safe.
Our Science longitudinal study this year will be about changes in the school grounds. We started our investigation by becoming detectives and searching for minibeasts, birds, and different shaped leaves.
We started our R.E. learning about the Christian creation story. We thought about the order that things were created in, and shared our understanding of the term 'creation'.
Admirals Class have had a fun start to the school year helping to redesign the outdoor area and exploring the newly set up classroom! We also thought about how we can show our school values in our learning.
