  • Art Lorry

Wed 21 Oct 2015 Miss Hynes
Today was a very exciting day for five children in Lockerley Primary School whose art work was selected to feature on a Raymond Brown lorry. The children got to sit in the lorry and have their pictures taken next to their designs, look out for it around Romsey!!
  • School Direct

Fri 16 Oct 2015 Miss Banks

Today 25 trainee teachers on the School Direct route into teaching visited Lockerley for a training day on Early Reading and Phonics. Myself and Mrs Burnside led the day and I wanted to share some of the lovely comments they said about our school.

Firstly all of the House Captains did a fantastic job at showing the trainees around the school on a very thorough tour. They answered all of their questions about the school and conducted themselves in a polite manner showing exemplary behaviour.

Additionally, throughout the morning all of the trainees went into the classrooms at least twice to observe our guided reading and phonics sessions. They were most impressed with the provision the children have for these areas of learning and were very grateful to the teachers for allowing them to observe them. Thank you to all of the parents that came in as an extra today to listen to children read!

Many commented on how lovely our school was, how polite the children were and how lucky we were to work in such a wonderful school! Well done and thank you to everyone who helped today!

  • Pet Assembly

Wed 14 Oct 2015 Miss Hynes

Lockerley had a very special visitor today…a snake! Alexis in Swallowtails, brought her pet snake Nagini into Collective Worship for all the children to see. We got to ask Alexis all sorts of questions about her pet and found out some very interesting facts. For example, did you know he eats one frozen mouse once a week and you can see it travelling down his body! I'm sure the children can share many more facts about Nagini too! Thank you very much to Alexis and her mum for bringing him in to show us!

  • Murphy's Visit

    Tue 13 Oct 2015 Murphy
    Hi

So today I sat near the Emperors' thrones to hear some of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.  Then I was amazed to hear that the space dragon in the Iron Man story was getting closer and closer, and it was actually as big as Australia, with eyes as big as Switzerland!  Imagine that!

Then I listened to the bit in Dream Fighter where the frog puts black pebbles and jewels in the pouch under his chin.  Wonder why he did that?  You'll have to read the story to find out!

  • 3RD AT CLUSTER CROSS COUNTRY!!!

Wed 07 Oct 2015 Mrs Appleby

    ****BREAKING NEWS****

Due to a miscalculation with the results yesterday I have just been informed that Lockerley were actually 3rd overall beating Broughton by 2 points.

On a slightly chilly, but thankfully dry, afternoon children from years 3-6 went to Test Valley to compete against the other schools in our cluster at long distance running.

Having warmed up and walked the course our year 3 fun runners kicked off the event. Toby and Maddie ran a well paced half mile each and both came top three out of all the runners in their races. Next were the competitive events  with boys and girls running separately against their peers. All of the runners ran really good mile long races so some serious stamina and determination was required! In these events it was about running your own race and pacing yourself which is always difficult when those around you seem to be running faster! Well done to Aaron, 1st in his race supported by team runner Henry (3rd) and to Sienna and Tiffany, who ran exceptionally strong races to come 3rd and 4th consecutively.

I was extremely proud to accompany the children who all, without exception, ran their hearts out and supported each other like a true sports team.

Well done team Lockerley, 4th overall :)

  • Murphy's Visit

    Tue 06 Oct 2015 Murphy
    Hi

Tuesdays always come round so quickly.  I settled happily to listen to Jacky Daydream and how her mum and dad met at a dance in Bath during the war.

Then I heard Wimpy Kid - 3rd Wheel, where the girls send the boys Candy Games to invite them to a Valentines dance, and the boys flicked mashed potato up onto the ceiling!  Yuk!

I listened to some superstitions in Horrible Histories Vile Victorians, such as you should never kill a spider as it always brings bad luck.  Hmmm, wonder if that's true?

  • Football Tournament

Fri 02 Oct 2015 Mr Dodson

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon for Lockerley's first sporting event of the year at the Hampshire Collegiate School last Friday.

Our footballers performed magnificently against five other schools, all of which were far bigger in size than ours.

    Game 1

Won 2-0 v Hamble (Ben S with both goals)

    Game 2

    Won 3-1 v HCS (Ben S x 2, Ben K)

    Game 3

Lost v St Bede (runners up)

    Game 4

    Lost v Winnall

    Game 5

    Lost v Foxhills (eventual winners)

Our 2 wins meant that we finished 4th and got to play another game v Winnall to decide who came 3rd overall. After losing 3-0 the first time we played, we managed to draw 4-4 (Ben S scoring all 4 goals). This meant that it went to a tense penalty shootout which we won 5-4. All 5 penalties scored with power and precision.

A magnificent team result to finish 3rd.

Well done to all the players who represented the school so well.

  • Murphy's Visit

    Thu 01 Oct 2015 Murphy
    Hi

So today the first Emperor read me Stormbreaker, which is written like a comic strip with speech bubbles and is full of great noise words like twang! klik! and whump!

Then I heard Wimpy Kid - The Long Haul which was about a family road trip in the summer holidays.  The Mum in the book read a magazine called Family Frolic for inspiration.  I'd use a magazine called Murphy Mayhem for my holiday ideas!  That'd be really exciting!

Next was How to Train Your Dragon (to be a Pirate) and I heard the part where Dogsbreath's big bottom was bitten by Toothless.  Hee hee hee!  Luckily for him, Toothless didn't have any teeth!  That book should have speech bubbles: I'm sure I could think of a few could noise words to use there!
