  • Sports Day 2014

    Fri 27 Jun 2014
We were blessed with perfect weather for the Sports Day yesterday. It was great to see so many children trying their best for their house in both the field events and track events. Also, it was fantastic to see so many parents, grandparents and friends of the school having such a good time, either enjoying a picnic lunch or running the length of the track. It was incredibly close, but the eventual winners were Rolle by just one point. Well done to all the children for making the day such a success.
  • Area Sports 2014

    Tue 24 Jun 2014

It was a beautiful day at King's Somborne for the annual Area Sports festival today. 24 children took part from year 3, 4, 5 and 6, competing in events such as the long jump, javelin, triple jump, shot putt as well as the usual traditional races.

Everyone gave 100% and competed to the best of their ability for the school and in the end we finished 4th overall. A great achievement.

  • Read for my School

Fri 20 Jun 2014 Miss Banks
Back in the spring term the children in Swallowtails and Emperors took part in a reading competition called Read for my School. There were four overal winners: Sam, Alice, Holly and Liam. They read the most books out of everyone. As well as those winners, as a school we were entered into a draw to win 100 brand new books for our school for reading over 250 books in total. This Monday a box arrived with our winning prizes. There is something for everyone from Skippers to Emperors. From Monday all of the new books will be in the library for you to scan out and take home. Well done to everyone for their hard work and support of this competition. We hope to run it again next year. Enjoy the new books. smiley
  • Salisbury Cathedral Art Day

Tue 17 Jun 2014 Miss Banks

Today the children in Admirals went on a school trip to Salisbury Cathedral. We had a fantastic day in and outside the Cathedral and were in awe of how big the Cathedral was! We had three art activities to complete. The first was to make our own print patterns and print them onto black paper. We carefully looked at the repeating patterns around the Cathedral to inspire us. Next we made collages of the Cathedral using beautiful pieces of paper and glueing them on. After our picnic outside we came back inside to create ugly gargoyles made from clay. The lovely ladies that helped us from the Cathedral mentioned how well behaved all of the children were! Everyone had a wonderful day. Take a look at our photographs to see us in action.

  • Year 5 Test Valley Day

Wed 11 Jun 2014 Jamie McCrae

What an amazing day!  It was great to be 'reunited' with the Year 5's again today, by joining them on their day trip to the local secondary school where they participated in several fun events with other local primary schools, such as a whacky boat race and rocket launch.  The children, and myself, thoroughly enjoyed the event, with groups trying really hard on their boat construction and rocket designs.

I was especially impressed with the children's contributions to when the secondary teachers were talking to all the schools; showing their superb science knowledge throughout!  (we must have answered 75-80% of all their questions!).

And... not only were the children trying their hardest, contributing willingly, reflecting their excellent manners and composure, but we won the rocket competition, bringing home Lockerley's first 1st place in any event this academic year!!!!!  Yes, Year 5, yes!!!  When it seemed that several other schools had launched their rockets the highest (and by quite a margin), up stepped our last pair: Danny H and Matthew W.  They were our last hope.  Their rocket absolutely shot into the air, flying the straightest, smoothest and highest by far!  It was clear then that we would bring back the bacon, but that did not stop the sporting celebration when they called out the victors!  Well done Year 5, any teacher would have been honoured to be with you today!
