  • Murphy's Visit

    Tue 26 Apr 2016 Murphy
    Hi there

So today I was with the Emperors, and Mum sat on a special chair, feeling like she was on a throne!

First of all, I heard all about the grisly, ghastly truth of the warriors in Cut-Throat Celts in the Horrible History series, then I listened to Car Jacked, where the car Jack's in gets hi-jacked with him inside it!  Oh no!  What do you think happens next?

After that, I heard an extract from the diary of Dennis the Menace, Bash Street Bandit.  I always really like the bits where Gnasher appears.  He's my favourite character because he's a dog, like me!

Lastly today, I listened to The Hunger Games where I found out that Effie Trinket has pink hair and a green dress - and a great name too!  I wish I had a great name: I'd choose ... Murphy the Magnificent, or The Marvellous Murphster, something like that, not just plain old Murphy Ford!  What name would you choose?

  • Murphy's Visit

    Tue 19 Apr 2016 Murphy
    Hi

So today I was back with Emperors, and I listened to Mr Gum who'd got morsels of food in his ears, then a Beast Quest story about Balish the water snake.  I heard the bit where Leo is drifting, and he saw a ship whose sails billowed all on their own, even though there was no wind!

Then I listened to Dark Summer, where Eddie is in a cave and meets a strange, pale girl who leads him by the hand back up to the surface, but she can't leave the cave.  I wonder why not?  You'll have to read the book to find out!

After that, I heard Horrid Henry Meets the Queen, which is very topical this week as it's the Queen's birthday.  Horrid Henry's favourite TV programme is Hogs House, where teenagers compete for the most disgusting rooms, and we find out that Horrid Henry's least favourite word is "chores."   Hmmm ... I don't much like the sound of that either!

Finally, I listened to another Horrid Henry story about Impatience Tutu, his dance teacher, where Horrid Henry pretended to be an enormous crocodile, about to gobble up Miss Tutu.

  • Admirals and Skippers visit Hillier's Gardens

    Tue 19 Apr 2016
All the children in Admirals and Skippers had a great day at Hillier's Gardens.  We learnt about how plants grow,  made pictures out of natural materials and went on a bud hunt.  The children also enjoyed exploring the "valley" going through the bamboo jungle and over the wobbly bridge.  Please look at both class pages for more photographs.
  • Hampshire Fire Service

Sat 16 Apr 2016 Miss Hynes
On Friday morning Hampshire Fire Service came in to talk to Admirals Class about fire safety. The children were shown the special fire-proof uniform firefighters have to wear and they talked about how to know if there is a fire and what to do. They played games, dressed up as firefighters, went inside the fire engine and got to squirt the hose. Have a look at some of the photos from the day.
  • Ali Sparkes

    Fri 15 Apr 2016 Ben K

On Friday 15th April an author named Ali Sparkes came to Lockerley School for a morning. It was extraordinary to have a real children’s writer. During her assembly we got hypnotized by a swirl on a drill, this made her face go smaller and then at the end bigger. Also, we got to hear her story on how she became an author and pursued her dreams even though she was rejected THREE TIMES!!! Surely every single person who was in that room would have been laughing their heads off by the time they came out. Years 3-6 definitely enjoyed it.

  • 500 Word Story Success

Wed 13 Apr 2016 Miss Banks

Over the Easter break I recieved an email from 'The 500 Words Team' at the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2. They wrote to inform me that out of 123,400 entries we had one story from Lockerley that had made it to the next round!

After whittling down the huge amount of entries to just 4,500 they chose one entry from Lockerley. 'The Immortal Pilot' written by Sam in year 5. A massive congratulations goes to Sam and his hard work for his superb story. We will find out in May if he has made it to the top 50!

Well done to everyone else that entered a 500 word story!
