  • New Gazebos

Mon 29 Jun 2015 Miss Banks

Last week we had our brand new gazebos built on the field. Thankfully they have been finished just in time for the hot weather due this week, so I am sure they will get a lot of use over the coming days. Today was the first day the children were able to use them and they have loved sitting in the shade during playtime and eating their lunch inside them. At some point this week the children will be able to use them for some outside learning too. Check out the pictures below.

  • Sport's Day

Fri 26 Jun 2015 Mr Dodson

We were blessed with perfect weather for Sports Day yesterday. It was great to see so many children trying their best for their house in both the field events and track events. Also, it was fantastic to see so many parents, grandparents and friends of the school having such a good time, either enjoying a picnic lunch or running the length of the track. Unlike last year, when it was extremely close, this year had a clear winning house, claiming a massive 72 victories – 23 more than the house in second place. Huge congratulations go to Nightingale who were awarded the ‘Biddlecombe’ Sports Trophy in church today.

    1st place - Nightingale - 72 wins

    2nd place - Rolle - 49 wins

    3rd place - Aylward - 46 wins

    4th place - Dalgety - 43 wins

  • 3 consecutive wins in 3 weeks!

Wed 24 Jun 2015 Mrs Appleby

As many of you already know, a couple of weeks ago,  Lockerley Kwik cricket team secured our first win at the Kwik cricket festival at Normal Court.

Last week 11 children went to West Tytherley to participate in the Area rounders competition. We started well with a victory and with Mr Williams there to coach the children into the best fielding spots we soon established a successful team. There was some excellent bowling and fielding not to mention batting, including a final trick shot rounder from Jack, which secured us victory in 5 out of the 6 matches and we were feeling slightly confident. We waited nervously for the results and were ecstatic when we were announced as the winners!

Yesterday 16 children from across years 3, 4, 5 and 6 went to compete at King's Somborne for the Area Athletics. Years 3 and 4 started with the track events outshining many of the other schools with their speed on the race track and securing numerous race wins. After the sprints they each completed a 300m longer distance run and again competed excellently.

Whilst the track events were happening, year 5 and 6 were competing in the field events;  standing long jump, tennis ball throw and chest push. James managed to set a record with the tennis ball throw reaching a distance just shy of 38m! They then swapped over. Year 5 and 6 had much stiffer competition in the track events, but we still secured a number of wins. In the field events Aaron managed to jump 1.84m - not bad for a year 3! Once they had swapped over and completed all the events each year group selected 4 competitors to take part in a 4x300m relay, just for fun. Year 3 and 4 absolutely smashed the race with a clear victory.

I was so proud to accompany the children to the last 2 events and was astounded by the performances of all the children. We clearly have some extremely talented atheletes in our midst and I look forward to seeing these children progress. As always our sportsmanship and teamwork stood out above everyone else.

Well done Lockerley School, awesome performance!

    Wed 17 Jun 2015
This afternoon the hall was buzzing with parents and children from every classroom to see the fantastic work Emperors class have produced over the term. Their topic was Egyptian life and you could take part in a range of activities from mummifying a doll to watching Egyptian dancing. Everyone who came had lots of positive things to say about the children's hard work. A great effort Emperors. Take a look at their class page for photos of the afternoon.

  • Murphy's Visit

Mon 15 Jun 2015 Miss Banks

A poem from Murphy's last visit...

Back I went to school today
I knew just where to be
    I followed through the corridor,
    Saw classrooms around me.

Mum went to sit down on the floor.
At first I just sat too,
Then we realised I'm too big -
    I shouldn't block the view.

The children came to read to us
As we sat by the door.
I thought I'd be the right height
If I flumped down on the floor.

The children ruffled up my ears
    Then patted me some more.
    All of them were gentle
So I offered them my paw.

They asked about my wet, black nose.
It means I'm fit and well.
All healthy dogs should have one.
(We've got a great sense of smell.)

The reading was fab this week too.
    I especially liked the tale
Of the family choosing a dog -
    Floppy was for sale!

  • Year 3/4 Tri-Golf

  • Pets as Therapy

Tue 02 Jun 2015 Miss Banks

Today was Murphy's first time in school listening to children read during guided reading. He looked like he had a good time hearing the children read and he got a lot of attention from the children in Admirals class who took a love to him straight away.

    He even wrote a poem:

So Tuesday was a Lockerley day
    I couldn't wait to go!
When Mum signed in the visitors' book
    The headteacher smiled hello

My tail was wagging all the time
    I heard the children's chat.
I went into the bright classroom,
    Got comfy on the mat.

Two children came and read to me
    (I always lie quite still)
I listen very hard like that
And the reading - it was brill!

All too soon they had to stop
But the best was still to come.
Lots of children sat round me
and stroked my ears and tum!

I wonder who will read with him next?

  • In The News

    Mon 01 Jun 2015
On Friday afternoon before half term the whole of Lockerley School gathered together to put their current news knowledge to the test. House groups had to work together to answer questions based on events happening in the news that week. The scores were added together and Aylward were declared the winners!
