  • Murphy's Visit

    Mon 30 Nov 2015 Murphy
    Hi

I was with Swallowtails again today, and first I heard Rainforest At Risk, where I learned all about tree frogs who camouflage themselves from predators by changing the colour of their body to whatever colour is around them.  I wish I could do that, then I'd change to brown and chase those pesky squirrels around!  Hahahaha!

Next I heard Magic Mates and the Jungle Drums, where the friends got lost in the jungle and had to find their way out.  Then I heard The Litter Queen, where Floppy had cut his paw on some broken glass.  Poor Floppy!

Lastly, I heard from a very useful book called Alien Adventures Fact File.  This was great because I've heard several Alien Adventure books lately, and this fact file told me all I needed to know about the characters  and everything - even their watches!  I don't really need a watch - I always know when it's dinner time!  I wish it was dinner time all the time!

  • Make a Noise About Bullying

    Wed 25 Nov 2015 K. Barnes

Anti-bullying week started with an assembly led by Mr Dodson introducing the theme for this year - 'Make a Noise About Bullying'.  The children looked at various examples of bullying and the importance of not suffering in silence.  Each class then carried out further work each afternoon to investigate the issues further.

Children in Skippers and Admirals learnt how to identify what bullying is and what to do about it.  They listened to the story of Tiny the Dinosaur and thought about how Tiny felt at each stage of the story.  Skippers then iced biscuits to spell out the important message of the week while Admirals created posters.

Swallow-Tails and Emperors discussed concepts raised by the story of Buttercup Bree in 'Daisy Chain'.  They created their own bullying stories and discussed how different the outcomes were when their characters sought help from others.  Swallow-Tails then created their own Anti-Bullying art exhibition while Emperors wrote and performed songs with anti-bullying themes.

Examples of the excellent work from each class were shared in Celebration Assembly on Friday.   Look at the class pages for further examples of the work produced.

  • Dress Bright Day

Mon 23 Nov 2015 Miss Wood

For Road Safety Week, Lockerley's JRSOs (Junior Road Safety Officers) organised a 'dress bright' day where the children could all come in wearing their lightest and brightest colours.

Everybody joined in and made a fantastic effort, even the teachers! There were lots of amazing outfits and lots bright colours to raise road safety awareness.

  • Murphy's Visit

    Mon 23 Nov 2015 Murphy

    Hi

I was back with Swallowtails today, by the teacher's throne, and I heard several exciting Beast Quests books.

The first one was one in the Amulet of Avantia series, read by Alfie (that's all A's!) then I listened to Kaymon the Gorgon Hound, where Tom found a lock of chestnut hair in the wall which was the same colour as his own.  Was it his father's?  You'll have to read it to find out!

Next we changed to Wimpy Kid - The Ugly Truth, where Greg threw a pillow across the room to remind himself to take a permission slip to school, and then I listened to even more Beast Quest in Ferno the Fire Dragon, where an evil wizard has enchanted the magical land of Avantia, and only a true hero can break his spell. Can Tom do it?

Finally I heard the last Beast Quest of the day - Hecton the Body Snatcher, where Tom and his companions are faced with a new menace! The Body Snatcher is prowling the land, feeding on his unlucky victims' flash. To reduce Freya and Silver from the land of Tavania, Tom must defeat this wicked Beast of doom...but we ran out of time to see if he managed it!

    See you next time!

  • Emperors' Gym Week

Fri 13 Nov 2015 Miss Banks
Throughout this week the children in Emperors have been learning new skills in gymnastics. The children put on a fantastic performance this afternoon to friends and family to show their group balances and shapes. The younger children in the school were very impressed and they are now looking forward to their gymnastic weeks in the coming weeks. Take a look at our class page to see our gym moves. (Warning: Do not try these at home!)
  • Murphy's Visit

    Fri 13 Nov 2015 Murphy
I was with Swallowtails again today, and Mum sat on  the teacher’s comfy throne while I lay on the floor pretending to be a rug.

First we heard Dirty Bertie who went to Bingo with his Gran. I know lots of games but I don't know Bingo!

Then we heard Survival Adventure where Amy’s leg got caught in a trap and her friends had to smash the trap to free her leg.

After that, I heard some spooky ghost poems - woooooo, woooooo! And finally I listened to Mae in the Middle.  Mae’s friend Meena was teaching Mae how to play the trumpet. Wow!  Wish I could do that, but my big pink tongue would get in the way!

  • Murphy's Visit

    Sun 08 Nov 2015 Murphy
    Hi

I was with Swallowtails again today - way hey! - and I settled down happily to listen to The Mixed Up Wishing Well where the well mis-hears what Shy Sarah and Greedy Gus really want.  He thinks Gus says that he wants toads in this boots when Gus really said that he wants loads of loot!

Then I heard about James and the Giant Peach, the bit where the peach is bobbing along in the ocean with the grasshopper, the earthworm and the ladybird.

Next I listened to Dennis the Menace in The Beano, where Dad leads his family into the woods to climb up a tree, to get away from the dinosaurs.  Professor von Nutter is in the dino lab, and needs to make a bigger dinosaur, who looks a bit like Gnasher!

  • Bronze Ambassador

    Fri 06 Nov 2015 Ben K

    Bronze Ambassadors

On Friday 16th October Chloe, Tom and Ben K went to the Bronze Ambassador training at Test Valley School. Bronze Ambassador is where you are in charge of sports around school and make changes in PE for the future. At Test Valley School there was a talk about how small things can make a big change in sport. However, the main aim of the day was to get people who aren't hooked to sport to start to love it. We all had a GREAT day and hope to make further sporting improvements in the coming months.

  • Skippers and Admirals Autumn Walk

Thu 05 Nov 2015 Miss Hynes
On Thursday afternoon Skippers and Admirals went on a very wet Autumn walk. We splashed through the puddles and the mud collecting items along the way. Then we stopped to play in all the leaves. We had a great time even if it was raining the whole time! Have a look at some of our pictures.
