Mother's Day
Fri 28 Mar 2014Mother’s Day
Thank you to the ladies from St. John’s Church who gave up their time to provide a huge variety of items, all at the bargain price of 50p, for the children to buy for Mother’s Day. After Vicar James’ Collective Worship on Thursday all the children were able to purchase a small item, which they chose themselves, as a treat for mum this coming Sunday. I hope all the mums enjoy their special treat.

Football Tournament
Thu 27 Mar 2014Thursday afternoon at Wallop saw the arrival of Lockerley at the area football tournament. We arrived with high hopes of success, but left with thoughts of 'if only'.
Overall, we played 5 matches and to cut a long story short...we didn't win any of them. However, Katie C, Katie S, Sam, Sienna, Joe, Ben K, Ben W and Samuel all did the school proud - we even managed to draw with the team who came 2nd!
Next year we'll be ready!

Sport Relief
Fri 21 Mar 2014Wow, what an incredible Sport Relief Day we had in school! All the children looked the part in their sporting outfits and so did the staff – especially Mr McCrae who went the distance as a ‘118’ guy – wonderful hair and ‘tache grown especially for the event. Swallowtails even managed to link their ‘Big Write’ to Sport Relief as they wrote a letter to Daniel – a boy they had learnt all about in my Sport Relief collective worship earlier in the week. Miss Banks was on photographic duty all day and even managed to make a movie which will be uploaded to our 'gallery' section later today. The run itself was a huge success with every child taking part and it was great to see so many parents and staff taking the run so seriously. I feel it is only fair for me to say that had I taken it seriously myself I would have won by a huge margin over everyone, but as Headteacher I must set the right example of ‘it’s the taking part and not the winning that counts’. We managed to raise over £150 which is a wonderful effort and I thank you all for your generous contributions.

Inter-House Spelling Challenge
Fri 14 Mar 2014This afternoon saw the whole school take part in Lockerley's first ever Inter-House Spelling Challenge run by the fabulous speller Mrs Attenborough. All children had a chance to take part in some great spelling activities. Some of the challenges included Independent Spelling, Amazing Anagrams, Alphabetti Spaghetti and Teacher Torture!! Dalgety triumphed overall followed closely by the other houses. Well done to everyone that took part and all of the teachers that helped and were tortured. Take a look at the photos from our spelltastic afternoon! -
World Book Day
Fri 07 Mar 2014On Thursday this week was World Book Day. Instead of the usual dressing up as your favourite characters we thought we would try something new. Children had to bring in a good quality, unwanted book to swop. The idea was that the children would take away a book that they had not read in return for one they no longer wanted. Across the school there were plenty of books swopped and all of the children that took part came away with a new book to enjoy at home.
In addition to the book swop, at lunch time the children could take part in a book competition. They arrived eager in Swallowtails class throughout lunchtime to take part and win prizes. Skippers had to match the book title to the book cover. Admirals matched a summary of a book to the front cover and Emperors and Swallowtails had to read a book summary and write the book title. Some children even had a go at finding out the authors. Great fun was had by all and the children were really enthusiastic about their new books.
There are also only about 2 weeks left to log all of the books you have read on the read for my school website. Remember if you read 8 or more books you can win some great book prizes and the children that read the most in each class will be rewarded with a prize for their superb effort. If you have forgotten your log in details just come and find me for a new log in.Keep reading!
