  • Primary Maths Challenge

Wed 29 Jun 2016 Mrs Barnes
Eight of our expert mathematicians from Year 6 pitted their wits against other local primary schools in the Romsey School Primary Maths Challenge.  The competition was fierce as they completed challenge after tricky challenge in the course of an hour.  Both teams worked superbly, demonstrating resilience, perseverence, delegation, teamwork and an awareness of their collective mathematical skills; each and every one of them was a credit to the school.  Special congratulations go to Team B (Sophie, Liam, Jordan and Tiffany) who came second overall!
  • Emperors Trip to Paultons Park

Tue 28 Jun 2016 Miss Banks
Everyone had a fantastic day at Paultons Park yesterday. The children's behaviour was outstanding and they all gave each ride a go even though some of the bigger rides can be nerveracking! The weather stayed dry for us and the children learnt lots of things about forces to add to their science topic work. Look on the Emperors class page for the photographs.

  • EU Referendum

Wed 22 Jun 2016 Mrs Barnes
Today's assembly, focussed on the British Value of democracy, centred around the EU referendum.  We discussed the vote as a way of giving everyone a voice in the debate, as well as looking in some detail at the EU, its role and the differing opinions on its effectiveness.  Finally, every child was given the opportunity to vote to either 'Leave' or 'Remain'.  The majority of children at Lockerley chose to remain in the EU.  We have passed this decision onto the editor of First News who will cast her vote on the 23rd June, in line with the majority of children's votes that she receives.  We wait to see whether the decision of Lockerley children reflects the mood of the nation!

  • Swallowtails at Test Valley

Mon 13 Jun 2016 Miss Day

On Monday 13th June, Year 4 were lucky enough to be invited to Test Valley School to take part in some egg-siting challenges! In the morning, their task was to create a safety pod for an egg which is dropped from several metres. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning the science behind eggs and found out some egg-cellent facts!

During the afternoon it was time to blast off! The children created their own rocket which would be catapulted into the air. They used various tools including sanding machines, saws and vices in order to create their rockets and we are delighted to say that 2 children in Swallowtails won the competition! The children represented the school wonderfully as always and very much enjoyed the fun and fact filled day!

This lunch time we had a fantastic picnic lunch organised by the wonderful Mrs Black. Everyone wore their best red, white and blue outfits and we sang the Queen a happy birthday. The food was delicious and everything was eaten up. We had some special class photographs taken and then we had a surprise visit from the ice-cream fan! Take a look at our photographs below.
  • Kwik Cricket Festival

    Wed 08 Jun 2016
Children from years 3-6 went to Norman Court on Wednesday to take part in a Kwick cricket festival. Our two bronze ambassadors, Ben K and Tom, captained a team each and selected players creating two equal teams. Ben's team, named 'Team Geoff', played four matches in total with no break throughout the whole 3 hour competition. They soon established some great batting pairs and supported each other well when fielding. 'Team Fred', Tom's team, got to suss out the competition during the first match observing from the shade of a tree. They then played three consecutive matches, one of which was against Team Geoff. There was some superb batting from Liam and Tom and great bowling from Adam. All of the players learnt a great deal from the afternoon, showed some great teamwork and perseverance and represented the school in true Lockerley style. Well done to all of the children.
