Spring 1

Art

We continued our study of Andy Goldsworthy in art looking for shapes in nature. We used perfect shapes to see if we could find anything that matched in the natural environment - we found some good shapes but nothing as perfect as the man made shapes. Using cardboard and a skewer we marked out holes using a perfect shape as a template and then we filled the holes with sticks and leaves and flowers and anything else we could find in nature - creating our very own perfect shape sculptures.

Science

Following on from our science visitors on Monday we began to look at what a life cylce is. The children thought it was something to do with how animals stayed alive so we looked at the human life cycle to being with and talked about what changes we go through as we grow up. We then talked about how different animals have different life cycles depending on if they are mammals, amphibians, reptiles, insects, birds or fish. Using the non-fiction books in the classroom the children found out about different life cycles and then we explored these through a play project where the children could represent their learning however they wanted to.

Science

Junipers had some very exciting furry and slippery visitors this morning! We very much enjoyed our visit from AnimalEd and learnt lots of interesting facts about gastropods and reptiles as part of our science topic about animals.

Art

Today we have been learning all about the artist Andy Goldsworthy. We looked at some of his sculptures and talked about what we liked about them and why. The children were then inspired to create their own Andy Goldsworthy inspired art using natural resources that we could find in our outside area.
